Configuring your inReach Satellite Device with SafetyLine

Your Garmin inReach device can integrate with SafetyLine, allowing you to remain safe and monitored even when outside of cell range. 

Before getting started, make sure that your IMEI number is within your "Satellite Device" section in your profile at slmonitor.com.

1. Verify that you’re on a Garmin Professional account if not you must upgrade to a Garmin Professional account. If you're on a Personal account, please follow the link for instructions on how to swap to Professional: https://support.garmin.com/en-CA/?faq=YziSHUMRUw7g78pK5e2ot7
   
   
2. Once logged in, navigate to the “Settings” section in the top right corner and select “Portal Connect.”  Once here, add this URL: https://deviceapi.slmonitor.com/garmin to the “Outbound Settings” section, and save all changes.
   
   
   
   
   
3. On the main page of your inReach portal and select "Groups and Users."
   
   
4. In the right-hand corner, select "Add user."
   
   
5. Fill in all the required fields in order to continue. SafetyLine does not utilize this information in any way. This is purely on the Garmin side of things and will be ignored when used with SafetyLine.
   
   
6. Next, proceed to the "Plans and Devices" page.
   
   
7. Next to the IMEI you wish to assign to the user you just created, click the three dots on the far right and select "Assign device."
   
   
8. From the drop-down menu, select the user you wish to assign the device to you and click "Assign."
   
   
9. Return to the "Groups and Users" tab, select "Users," and select the user you wish to configure the messages for by clicking the three dots on the right-hand side of the user, and selecting "Edit."
   
   
10. Select "Messages" from the top of the screen. From you here, you can assign the three mandatory preset messages for use with SafetyLine: !report-OK !report-END !report-EMERGENCY  [e-mail] in the email field and hit save. 11. Additionally, you can also assign "Quick Text Messages" that allow the user to enter additional text after the command before the command is sent. (For details on preset messages compatible with additional text, please visit the bottom of the page.)

13. Add your device number to the "Satellite Device" section of your SafetyLine profile.
    

In the SafetyLine App, your IMEI number can then also be found by selecting the hamburger menu in the top-left corner, and selecting your profile picture.

Predefined Messages

• Please note that the Predefined Message format must be exact in order for the SafetyLine commands to work. For example, !report-OK will perform a Check-in command, while !report OK will fail. Please ensure all symbols, words, and spaces are configured properly.

!report-OK	Performs a Check-in command.
!report-OK Example text.	Performs a Check-in command that includes additional information. (Example: !report-OK Starting my shift.)
!report-OK-120	Performs a Custom Check-in command to a custom time (in minutes). The "120" can be adjusted to any number of minutes below the user's default check-in interval.
!report-END	Performs an End Monitoring command.
!report-TEXT Example text.	Leaves additional text information without performing a command. (Example: !report-TEXT Running late to Site B.)
!report-EMERGENCY	Triggers a Panic Emergency, notifying all Monitors right away.
!profile-ITINERARY Example text.	Performs a command which updates the user's Itinerary within SafetyLine. (Example: !profile-ITINERARY Heading to Site B at 13:00.)
