GPS breadcrumbs are pings sent out by a device at certain intervals which SafetyLine receives to report a user's location. Monitors within SafetyLine use the information provided by breadcrumbs to infer a user's current location based on their most recent trail of GPS pings, even if the user themselves has not manually checked-in.
- GPS breadcrumbs are an additional safety measure that provides useful context to a user's last known location. Breadcrumbs are not meant to be used as a replacement for voice or text messages left by the user upon check-in. Voice and text messages remain the strongest and most important methods of providing location to keep users safe.
- GPS breadcrumbs are not meant to serve as a method of tracking an individual user's live location. The accuracy of breadcrumbs cannot be relied upon for live-tracking, and SafetyLine itself is not meant to be utilized for the live-monitoring of employees.
- SafetyLine does not collect GPS information, via breadcrumbs or otherwise, if a user is not checked-in.
Turning on GPS Breadcrumbs
- Ensure Location Services are enabled on your device. For more information on how, please click here.
- Login to the SafetyLine App (any device).
- Open the menu on the top left-hand side, then navigate to "Safety Settings."
- Under GPS settings, toggle "GPS breadcrumbs."
GPS Breadcrumb Frequency
The frequency of automatic GPS breadcrumbs is determined by the operating system, and the type of SafetyLine emergency triggered by the user.
